A walk in the woods

Player B (Escaped Prisoners)

For concealment purposes movements will be on the plan and then possibly the GM will move figures until actual confrontational contact with is achieved.

You are Leonard Mead known as Lennie the Horn, the finest safe blowing cracksman in Britain. You have been residing at her majesty’s pleasure in Sladewood Prison but your fame has saved you. Some Bavarian’s wish to make use of your services regarding a very important safe job! They have paid the ‘Prof’ a handsome fee to spring you out. No expense spared, they have also arranged for a couple of hundred other prisoners to join the break out to help cover yours. They had your mother send you a birthday cake actually for your birthday! Of course the warders sampled it but they left the part under the icing model of the Houses of Parliament. This was the part with the dynamite in it with the detonators in the model itself. You were housed in the ‘A’ Wing of the prison having the most notorious prisoners in it. Included were several likely to be sentenced to death on conviction. The ‘Prof’ organised for clothes weapons and support for these including employment should they manage to reach the Ashdown Forest. Part of the plan was for the prisoners in B and C wings to be released as well. They were told that there were mules laden with civilian clothes for those who could find them to the east and west of the prison. (Not true but you did not know that.) Your own objective after leaving the jail was to head south to find some actual mule loads with guides to assist you. The selected prisoners and helpers in the organisation are to wear sprigs of yellow broom in their buttonholes. Some of these are with the mules. The password is ‘Eos’ to be answered by ‘Aurora’. You have with you two desperadoes Jason Jermaine and Vernon Vessinter, accused of murder and likely to be hung if caught. In the night you found a mule with the boy Desmond who was looking for you in particular. The three of you change into civilian clothes with you being dressed as a woman. Desmond tells you that Kevin and Luke will be paid two pounds each if they escort you to a set place. Then they can carry on to southward to hide in the Ashdown Forest. They are armed with a revolver each and you have a derringer. In fact Desmond is to take you to a shed to collect a bicycle. You are to escape by riding east to Wych Cross disguised as a local lady Miss Aspasia Warbleton to whom the bicycle belongs. Short of Wych Cross you will be met and transported to safety. Another group of prisoners is led by Percy Partington serving ten years for rape. (Called by the newspapers the Passionate Peeler of Poplar.) For him there was a police uniform and his cover is that he is escorting the other two, also jailed rapists as captured prisoners. He has a revolver but the uniform and badges are for the metropolitan police rather than the Sussex constabulary. The other two are Reg King and Dave Weeks armed only with their fists.  You have four other squads of two each. Such a large breakout will have police warders and perhaps even troops out in force. Whilst some of your escapees have pistols they know that a gunshot is likely to attract hostile attention. This is why many have preferred to stick to cudgels or daggers.

It is a dry day, sunny with cloudy intervals. Movement on the paths and track are at normal rate, minus two inches for furtive or searching rates. Movement through the overgrown woodlands is at half plus 1” rate, with minus two inches for furtive or searching moves. Draw a card for the position of each squad at dawn.
