The Ambusher’s problems
at the Butterfly Glade
Beevil and Matrigna had
their ambush well laid at the Butterfly Glade. Matrigna had sent the Cherub
Natalie to discover the names of the leaders of the interlopers and their
traitor Verdini allies. An Imp would be sent to be given them in the night.
Since there were known to be females in the party Natalie was to inflict
Amazon type accelerated pregnancies on them, starting with any of the Verdini.
This might well cause internal disputes in time. To impose an Imp on a named
person Beevil and Matrigna needed to be within 6 hets of them and be in the
Mondo Reale, not the Gheist Flache. Being a Zealth Spell, like the Pregnancy
Imposition, only one attempt per day was wise. (Natalie is permitted two a day
due to the possession of the Tome of
Mathoth.)
When the Interlopers arrived
the Imp Sik made faces at the from a crag top in the attempt to draw some
missile fire. However the Interlopers realised that he was in the Gheist Flache
and thus safe. Only magic weapons can affect anyone in the Gheist Flache from
the Mondo Reale. Further on the Imp Pik tried the same but also had the task of
signalling when Weispfote’s Whorgi were to emerge from hiding to attack the rear
of the Interlopers. The Interlopers advanced cautiously passing to the left of
the centre crag to avoid the vultures feasting on the monster Gingham’s body.
There were two boars drinking at the pond unconnected with Beevil’s forces.
However they rashly decided to attack the four Verdini scouts and although
managing to wound one were both killed. As the Interloper’s moved on, Pik
released the Whorgi a little too soon. The Interlopers reformed to face the
threat and killed Weispfote and two other Whorgi. The two survivors fled.
Meanwhile Matrigna was trying to hatch out some of the giant vampire Butterflies
that gave the glade its name. In the event she released four, though they did
not attack in concert. In all they managed to knock over two interlopers and
actually stun another. Whilst this was happening, Chief Argentair’s elf archers
started loosing at the Interlopers from a crag ledge. Their fire was returned by
the dwarves crossbows and two archers were wounded. Despite the fire, the
Interlopers began to advance again. When Captain Bluglove’s Elf spear unit
emerged from the trees to charge them they counter charged. A Verdini spearman
fell but so did four Elves. The rest panicked and ran away. Sorceress Marrona in
her tree trunk form was waiting to order her Woleyn to attack from the flank.
However seeing the elves run she realised that to do so would be suicide and
remained disguised until night fall. The Interlopers then looted the bodies and
buried the single Verdini faller. They camped beside the pool for the night.
Chief Argentair
complained that his elves had not been adequately supported and he was taking
his tribe back to their own lands. Marrona was reluctant to risk herself and her
Woleyn again, unless Beevil could provide a better position for them. Beevil
said that he thought one might be arranged at the Blasted Wood. He knew that the
Interlopers were to be joined by a unit of Placki horsemen. He thought that he
could bring a unit of Huns across the border and to the Blasted Wood before this
happened. He hoped that at the Blasted Wood he and Matrigna might Impose Imps of
the Interloper’s leaders. Realising that her tree trunk form would fit in with
the dead trees of the Blasted Wood Marrona agreed to help.
