DEdburgh 2

A Rescue and a search for fuel.

Contact me on info@morvalearth.co.uk for anything about this game or anything else on the site.

After playing a few games Young Alan and I discussed making the game a bit more interesting without adding a lot of effort in scenario writing.  I decided on two main additions to the games.  Firstly I designed 9 mission cards each containing a mission (obviously), a brief outline and a suggestion for the size and equipment of the survivors.  Secondly I designed 45 Event Cards.  Why 9 and 45?  For many other games I use cards and the template in MS Word has 9 cards per A-4 sheet and they fit nicely into an A4 lamination pouch without too much wasteage.

The Playtest:

Young Alan selected his mission card and turned it over.

RESCUE

Mission: You are to rescue the survivors and as much of their supplies as you can and get them all back to the safe house.

You must reach the survivors in a barricaded building and get them back to your safe house (entry point).

You have 4 well-armed survivors

1.        Assault rifle, shooting skill

2.       SMG, melee weapon and skill

3.       2 x miniSMG

4.       Chainsaw, 2 pistols

I selected a random Mission card:

FIND FUEL

Mission: Find at least 8 units of fuel for your minibus.

Roll a d6-2 each wrecked vehicle that you syphon to drain that much fuel.  You will need suitable containers from the surrounding buildings.

You have a broken down minibus,

2 adults, 4 school children.

You have 2 pistols, a catapult or two and hand weapons.  Only the adults can drive though an older pupil may also drive in an emergency.

We used pretty much the same set up as our last game because it was still on the table.

The random zombies were set up - a few Shamblers, 2 fast, 1 tank and 3 Liches!

Right from the start the Liches called out bringing zombies from all sides.

Young Alan's group moved along the rear of the houses.

My lightly armed group started to move through the back alleys after our minibus ran out of fuel.  The first house was checked - no zombies, no suvivors and no fuel.  So I visited the kitchen and collected as many empty containers as I could.

Young Alan's rearguard is attacked!

On each Survivor Activation Card we decided to draw an "Event" Card (This worked really well for keeping us on edge). 1-3 it affected Young Alan, 4-6 it was mine. In this case the survivors had been eaten or infected - 5 zombies inside.

On Our second activation Young Alan drew the dard again!  A wretched dog attracted zombies,

I moved up the alley using the rubbish skip as cover, But ...

The next card affected my group.  So I moved on rescuing 2 survivors and finding 2 units of fuel in the house.  Unfortunately peering in the window revealed that the next one was brim full of zombies so I decided to leave it locked up.

A swarm of zombies appeared from the wrecked cars.  Thank goodness I was behind the wall!

Young Alan was having trouble and his rearguard was heavily engaged, both characters being wounded but not bitten.

Suddenly a swarm of zombies shambled along the road.

Searching the wrecked cars revealed more fuel and held the area while the fuel tanks were syphoned into the canisters.  Not only that the Event Card was a Jerrycan of fuel!  Now to get back.

What the teachers could not see was the growing horde near my minibus.

The next card affected Young Alan - his chaisaw man was INFECTED!  And he set off on a rampage against all zombies!

He slaughtered several but his chainsaw ran out of fuel and he lost his final melee.

The dog returned and drew off the horde for a while.

I reached the minibus and started pouring the fuel into the tank.

Back they came.  And still the girls poured in the fuel.  The teacher decided that half the fuel would be nough to get out.

Not a moment too soon, anther spawn point was drawn and the random dice put right beside the minibus.  "All inside! Open Fire!" 2 revolvers, a shotgun and 2 catapults shot from the windows slowing the horde as the front rank received "knockbacks"

Young Alan made it back to the safe house with the rescued survivors and his casualties were checked and found clear of the virus.

The minibus shot backwards leaving a trail of dismembered zombies.  My casualties were checked and all found to be clear of the Virus.

Missions accomplised!
