Graf Silth's Mission

Graf Silth Into Limura

After the violent actions in the Cragkreis Preserve you marched onwards through the night. At the turning we turned right heading towards your home of Khazdan. Eventually you saw a squad four armoured dwarves ahead of us. They halted when within voice range. The lead one spoke “You must go to tell King Granbold that we are at war with Limura! They have driven hordes of wolves over the border into Neradh! These have killed some of our people and ruined many of our traps!”

You were astounded as the speaker was none other than your wife, Grafin Zilch daughter of Zendo! You had not recognised her in her helmet and mail! “Sir Zenith is out with the men repairing and resetting the traps!” she continued. Sir Zenith son of Zendo is Zilch’s brother and a right pain in the backside! But best to remain tactful.

“Beloved wife, it will be for King Granbold to decide whether we are at war or not. Those behind us know about the wolves of whom we have slain seventeen! We are escorting Princess Griselda to the Bossil Fall, seeking a plant to make yellow dye. We fear that Graf Lukin and Bishop Bhorin will try to stop us, so we will carry on!”

“I see. You are sure that they know of the wolves at Naug?”

“The Warden Jaun has activated the Iggi monster to deal with the wolves. I expect the King will send a force to investigate how they arrived here. Then he can make his own decision!”

“I think my brother had better hear of this. I was expecting to travel all the way to Naug if necessary. If we go quickly we will catch Zenith before he leaves the village.”

So we went on and arrived in Khazdan shortly after. There we all had breakfast. In private you told Zilch that our real mission was to take our daughter to Aroar, so that Sir Slepe would be forced to marry her. She immediately demanded to come too! The ladies were pretty exhausted, not being used to so much exercise. You told them that to escape from any pursuit, we must hide in the forest beyond the border! Our two wounded, the soldiers Kith and Cond you arranged to be cared for in the village. In a frenzy of packing Zilch with her abigail Meen and her three halberdiers, joined us with a well laden mule within half an hour! Indeed it was as a result of her nagging that you asked for the Princess’ support in the first place!

This meant that we now numbered twenty with four mules. Hopefully enough to face the danger’s ahead? Despite living on the border for most of your life, contact with the human tribes over the border had been almost non-existent. They spoke the Washa language, had little use for gold and collected the ears of their enemies! It was quite possible that you dwarves came into this category! However it was known that they had sheltered a large number of renegade dwarves who had fled from King Granbold’s Justice!

So it was with some trepidation that you marched along the narrow paths in single file. This led you through the belt of briars and traps that protected the border. Princess Griselda asked “If you have had no contact with the Limuran’s, why are there these paths?”

“They facilitate the picking of the bramble berries in season, Khazdan is renowned for its Bramble jams, pies and wines!” Large dead tree trunks marked our border and the trees had been cleared away for a goodly no-man’s land space, before the forest took over again. It was not until mid-morning that you allowed them to set up a camp and the ladies were allowed to rest. In fact they lay down and you erected the tents over them. Before all four of these had been erected you heard a drum beating, not very far away! Soon others joined it until there were at least four. This went on for some time but then they stopped one by one until around the 17th hour there was silence. Then Zilch’s abigail Meen called out that she had seen a face peering out at them from a tree beyond the stream. Looking at where she pointed you spotted another further to the left. Then another and another! You ordered that the sleepers be woken up and everyone was to take up a defensive posture. Pouth and Meen were sent to keep the mules calm, whilst the rest formed a line in front of the tents. The day is dry but overcast with little wind. Melda has some soup half cooked in the kettle. There seem to be rather a lot of the wild people, what are you going to do?
