All is quiet in the main town which lies outside the temple
area. The workers and servants have a hutted camp on the other side of
the road. Binky decides to split the force. Adrian is to lead
the advance party with his askaris and a machine gun. He is to secure
the crossing of the mirror pools in front of the temple. Binky and
Gerald will follow up with the majority of the fighting men while Ramsden
stays behind holding the baggage enclosure. They agree rocket
signals to co-ordinate their action.
Adrian stealthily makes his way through the almost silent
village. In some huts the party can hear sounds but they press on.
Moving stealthily alongside the mirror pools they find pots
full of an oily substance. Adrian reckoned that they were probably
lamps. In the pools the water swirls as they move along. Their shadows
are being followed by creatures below the water. Crocodiles!
Huge ones. The whole party involuntarily moves away from the edge.
Adrian orders the pots moved to the village end of the causeway.
Moving into the position that they saw earlier, Adrian
deploys his men to give maximum fields of fire. They stumble across sleeping
guards and quickly dispose of them. There are, however empty beds.
A patrol must be out on its rounds.
As dawn approaches the servants start their work.
Cooking fires are lit and breakfast is prepared. A slave brings water
to the huts and is captured and tied up. The others in the hut quickly
surrendered. A little later the patrol returned and was ambushed
silently as it entered the hut. The advance guard settled down to
wait.
Some pictures are missing and will be
added later.
As the main party arrives they are spotted by the
lookout and the garrison sallies out to meet them in an uncoordinated
attack. The attackers are driven off in heavy fighting. Both
sides suffer casualties. The survivors regroup in the town and prepare
to retire to the temple. Binky is wounded again.
An aerial view of the battle.
Brian (playing Gerald) and Andrew (playing Adrian) watch the
survivors of the attack make their way back towards the temple.
The mirror pools are card painted with a mix of gloss
silver, green and blue paint. The sand coloured temple comes from a
Great Adventure of the Lost Kingdom play set. They sometimes come up
on e-bay. Excellent and huge. The collonaded courtyard is from
another set - made by Atlantic I think.
In the background Slim (playing Binky) watches as the albino
witch and her escort flee to the tower.
The tower is
from a Blackbeard's Treasure Pirate set. It serves in many games.
After a long and hard fight against Medjay archers, Guard
archers and Priests, in which they suffer heavily when the machine gun jams
Adrian's troops advance through the new temple. Mahmoud falls badly
hit and appears dead. Later he is found to be wounded.
The Egyptian pieces are from e-bay. I do not
know who made them.
The last of the survivors from the battle outside the town
dash for the temple. They are caught in a cross fire from Adrian and
Binky.
After a pause to regroup the Adventurers get ready to fight
their way in to the temple when a delegation comes out to invite them to an
audience with the White Queen. Binky accepts the invitation. He
thinks that the offer is made because the White Queen is defeated.
Inside the Temple the formalities of the audience are gone
through and gifts are exchanged. It becomes more apparent that the
White Queen realises that the Adventurers have inflicted such a series of
defeats that she is willing to allow the hostages to be freed. Binky
accepts this graciously. And when she proposes that he rid a village
of lions he accepts. He is fully aware that it may well be a ploy to
get him killed.
At the end the end of the day the Adventurers have suffered
heavily - Binky and Mahmoud are wounded, though Binky's wound is
superficial. Achmed Tokar is wounded as is the Sikh artillery officer
and two askaris. Adrian's bugler is dead, as is a Sikh artilleryman
and an askari. Gerald has lost his machine gun crew killed and also
two askaris. Binky's group has escaped virtually unscathed.
The White Queen lost at the town some 39 native spearmen and
25 native archers as well as 8 Egyptian spearmen. The group that
attacked Adrian at the huts suffered 17 Medjay, 6 guards and a priest
killed.
Later that day the Ramsden brought in the baggage. The
wounded are tended and the White Queen offers magnificent hospitality.
