Arthur and the Saxon Invasions

Ever since my father read me the stories of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table I have been interested in finding out about the "real" Arthur.  I saw the film "Excalibur" when it first came out and this rekindled my interest.  Later I found the Bernard Cornwell trilogy an interesting variation on the story even if he included druids 300 years after their suppression by the Romans.  Ever since I have bought or borrowed books from the library whenever I have seen them.

Recently I read my brother's Warhammer Ancient Battles "Age of Arthur" and was given the Osprey "King Arthur" and started looking for wargame sources.  My collection of wargame magazines yielded several articles in Wargames Illustrated in 1999 (nos 138, 139, 140, 142, 146, 147, 148, 149) covering history and wargaming.  And there is a lot more as well and the internet yields even more.

Then at Christmas our son gave me some Late Roman cavalry and infantry.  A search of the plastic & lead mountain yielded several more figures.  And so a project was born!

The Arthur of this project is set in the Dark Ages as far as the figures go but will include a bit of the magic and myth of the later stories.  So in the project you will find history and mythology mixed together.
